Cookie management and policy

Entry into force: 23 October 2020

When you use the website www.iberia.com and other online services, such as the mobile app, you agree that we may store and access cookies and IP addresses, as well as other methods, in order to collect data about the use of websites and improve your online experience.

This includes information about the use of the website, the browser type and device from which you access it, and your location in the world (see the section "How do we collect and use geographical information?".

You can allow, block or delete the cookies installed on your device by clicking on the following button. If you do not allow certain cookies to be installed on your browser, you may not be able to access certain services and your experience on our website may be less satisfactory.

1. What are cookies?

Cookies are small data files that are generated on your computer, smartphone, tablet or any other device when you visit a website. They enable the website owner to store or retrieve certain information about your browsing patterns from the device in question.

For example:

  • Our cookies will remember the language and country you select so that when you visit our website you will see the contents in that language and the departure airports shown will automatically belong to that country.

  • If you have started to make a booking, cookies will enable you to browse to other parts of the website and then go back to your booking.

2. Types of cookies on the IBERIA website and their purposes

Below we offer information about the different types of cookies and what they are used for:

  • Types of cookies according to the entity that uses them

There are two types of cookies related to the entity that manages the terminal or domain from which they are sent and that processes the data collected:

    • First-party cookies: These are the ones that are sent to your terminal from www.iberia.com.

    • Third-party cookies: These are the ones that are sent to your terminal from a terminal or domain that is not managed by Iberia but by another entity, which processes the data collected through the cookies. Since it is the third parties that send the cookies, it is their specific conditions and mechanisms that govern how to block and delete them.

  • Types of cookies according to their lifespan on your terminal

    • Session cookies: These are designed to collect and store data while you are visiting a website. They are deleted when you close your browser.

    • Persistent cookies: These are saved on your terminal and the data collected can be accessed and processed for the period of time determined by the entity responsible for them, which may range from a few minutes to several years.

  • Why does IBERIA use cookies?

IBERIA uses cookies for the following purposes:

    • Technical aspects: These are the cookies that allow you to browse the website or the platform and use the different options or services offered, such as controlling the traffic and communication of data, identifying the session, accessing restricted access areas, using security elements while browsing or storing contents for the dissemination of videos or audio files and sharing content through social media like Twitter, Facebook, Google+ and YouTube. They may be session or persistent cookies.

      For example:

      - To balance traffic on the website in order to offer customers a reliable and uninterrupted service.

      - To limit traffic on key parts of the website in order to maintain performance levels.

      - To ensure the correct operation and provision of our services when you have searched for them on other websites.

      - To store your agreement to the website privacy policy, cookie policy and terms of use, without which you would not be able to visit iberia.com.

    • Ease of use: These cookies allow you to access the service with certain pre-defined characteristics based on a series of criteria in your terminal, such as the type of browser you use to access the service and the regional configuration from where you access it, etc.

      For example:

      - To collect comments about customer satisfaction through the website questionnaire.

      - To obtain information about how visitors use the website in order to improve its usability.

    • Analysis

These cookies allow us to quantify the number of users and also perform measurements and statistical analyses on our users’ use of our website. The aim of this analysis is to improve the browsing experience on our website.

      For example:

      - To collect comments about customer satisfaction through the website questionnaire.

      - To obtain information about how visitors use the website in order to improve its usability.

    • Advertising

These cookies allow Iberia to manage the advertising spaces on the website as efficiently as possible.

      For example:

      - To allow iberia.com to present different versions of the site for marketing purposes.

      - To manage invitations on iberia.com for instantaneous offers.

      - To allow third parties to show appropriate adverts and monitor their effectiveness.

Please bear in mind that if you delete the cookies we won't know whether you have decided to reject advertising and third-party banners will therefore appear when you visit certain other websites.

    • Behavioural target advertising: These cookies store information about your behaviour online, obtained through continued observation. Thanks to these, we know what your internet browsing habits are and can show you adverts related to your browsing profile.

What is online behavioural target advertising or interest-based advertising?

      - Online behavioural target advertising (also known as interest-based advertising) is a way of ensuring that the adverts shown on the websites you visit are more relevant to you and your interests.

      - Shared interests are grouped on the basis of previous browsing activity on the website so that the adverts shown coincide with website users' shared interests. This makes the advertising on the website as relevant and useful as possible. Relevant adverts may also be shown on the basis of the website content you have just viewed. This is known as retargeting.

3. How can I manage IBERIA cookies?

You can allow, block or delete the cookies installed on your device by setting the options on your internet browser, or alternatively by clicking on the settings button at the beginning of this policy.
If you do not allow cookies to be installed on your browser, you may not be able to access certain services and your experience on our website may be less satisfactory.

  • How can I reject or refuse consent for the use of cookies through my browser?

You can decline to accept cookies by changing the settings of your internet browser (e.g. Internet Explorer, Chrome or Firefox). Remember, if you block the use of cookies on certain areas of our website, the content may not be accessible or may not function properly.

The following links contain details on how to manage or disable cookies on each browser:

However, please bear in mind that if you delete your cookies:

    • We won't know whether you have rejected online behavioural target advertising, so the banners from our third-party advertisers will appear when you visit certain other websites.

    • We won't be able to automatically recognise whether you have agreed to the website privacy policy, cookie policy and terms of use, so every time you visit the website we will have to ask you to confirm your acceptance and your language and country preferences.

  • How can I decline the use of cookies for online behavioural target advertising?

There are numerous sites that can help you to decline the use of cookies for online behavioural target advertising by third-party advertising agencies on behalf of website advertisers.

Please remember that if you decline the use of online behavioural target advertising by means of these services:

    • It doesn't mean that Iberia products and services advertised on our websites will no longer to tailored to your interests.

    • It won't stop all use of cookies for online behavioural target advertising because it only applies to third-party advertising agencies that have registered to use those services.

    • It doesn't mean that adverts will no longer appear on this website or any other websites that you visit. However, the adverts you see will be less relevant to your interests.

Besides, deleting the cookies on your browser may also remove any preferences you have set to block certain services, so you may have to unsubscribe again.

Lastly, if you have any problems related to the use of cookies on this website, or if you wish to exercise your rights of access, correction, erasure, restriction, opposition and portability, please write to us at oficinaDPO@iberia.es.

4. To whom will your data be disclosed?

IBERIA may disclose your data, for the sole purposes stated in “Why does IBERIA use cookies?, to other companies in the IAG Group, public administrations and other individual or legal bodies that also undertake any of the aforementioned activities and with which the different companies in the IAG Group have entered into partnership agreements. This is the case irrespective of whether or not an operation is formalised and, if applicable, once the contractual relationship has terminated. Likewise, there is no need to inform you every time your data are disclosed for the first time to the aforementioned recipients.

With companies that you have used to obtain information about our flights and special service offers (e.g. metasearch engines for flight deals, holidays and special offers), for the sole purposes of managing the relationships between Iberia and those companies (e.g. conversion fees on purchases).

Within the framework of the disclosures indicated in the previous paragraph, international transfers of data may be made to third countries or international organisations, irrespective of the existence or not of an adequacy decision regarding data protection under the terms and conditions of the European Commission. International transfers to countries that cannot guarantee an adequate level of protection will be treated as exceptional and will only be made if they are essential to the correct execution of the contractual relationship.

5. Policy updates

Iberia may modify this Cookie Policy in accordance with regulatory or legislative demands, or to adapt it to the instructions dictated by the Spanish Data Protection Agency. Users will be notified if significant changes are made to this Cookie Policy.
